No, voting it not mandatory in Denmark - but it's a great way to have a say in decisions that affect your everyday life.
Yes. If you can't vote on election day, you have the option to vote in advance.
Advance voting starts six weeks before the election and ends the Friday before election day.
You can vote in advance at Citizen Service (Borgerservice) in any municipality in Denmark. Bring valid ID, such as your yellow card or passport. The staff will help you cast your vote and make sure it is sent to the correct voting district.
If you are eligible, you'll automatically receive a voting card (valgkort) in the mail before the election. It tells you where to vote, the opening hours, and what to bring (e.g. ID).
If you are eligible, and you haven't received your voting card five days prior to the election day, or if it contains incorrect information, you should contact your municipality as soon as possible.
The lists of candidates will normally be available for six weeks prior to the election day or as soon as possible hereafter.
You can also follow local news and media for updates, interviews, and debates about the election and the candidates.
