International Community
There's a growing international community on Lolland. We're welcoming newcomers from all over the world who are relocating to Lolland. Lolland Municipality has a number of international ambassadors who have relocated to Lolland and they can offer invaluable insight into both the wonderful and challenging aspects of this experience. They're volunteers who are happy to answer any questions you may have about your new life here on Lolland.
There's also an international network on Lolland-Falster run by volunteers. The network helps both internationals and Danes connect and engage through activities, events and programmes throughout the year. They help newcomers settle in to Danish culture and lifestyle.
My move and transition to Maribo has been one of the easiest international moves I've ever done. Having my questions answered by the Lolland international ambassadors prior to arrival, followed by being embraced by the International Community Lolland-Falster once I arrived truly eased me into the community. This warm welcome set the tone and it has been smooth sailing ever since. Mange tak Lollik i Lolland!
Maria, moved to MariboClubs and Associations
Clubs and associations are a great way to network and socialise. Denmark is sometimes called a nation of associations because we have so many clubs and associations, and almost any kind of hobby you can think of has a Danish association for it.
Joining an association or club is a great way to make friends and build a local network. They're open to anyone, whether you're a child, young person, single or in a couple.
The great thing about associations and clubs is that they're run by volunteers, and it's usually pretty affordable to become a member.
It's pretty common for Danes to be members of some kind of association or club. Most clubs are sports clubs. Football is the most popular with the most members, while handball, gymnastics and swimming are also growing sports genres in Denmark.
