# International Communities

Feeling at home often begins with meeting people, building friendships and becoming part of a community. Fortunately, Lolland has a growing and welcoming international community. Throughout the year, a number of volunteer-driven networks and associations organize social activities where internationals and Danes come together. Whether you're looking for practical advice, new friendships or simply a good cup of coffee with people who understand what it's like to be new in Denmark, you'll find plenty of opportunities to connect.

## International Community Lolland-Falster (ICLF)

International Community Lolland-Falster (ICLF) is a volunteer-run association that brings together internationals and locals through a wide range of social activities throughout the year.

The community organizes communal dinners, family-friendly events, cultural activities and networking opportunities. Every September, ICLF also hosts its annual Welcome Event, where new international residents can meet other newcomers as well as people who have already made Lolland their home.

[Everyone is welcome to join, and most activities are announced through the ICLF Facebook group.](https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557962918465 "Everyone is welcome to join, and most activities are announced through the ICLF Facebook group.")

## DEN BLAA FISK - International Network Café

Three years ago, three women from Norway, Colombia, and Poland came together to turn a shared idea into reality. They understood how important social networks are and saw the need for a place where newcomers could meet, exchange ideas and information, and build friendships. The woman from Norway, with experience in socially engaged art projects, offered the venue – the art gallery Den Blaa Fisk. The woman from Colombia was an experienced expat and a talented baker, while the third member of the group, an actress and singer from Poland, knew everything about brewing great coffee.

And so, the International Tuesday Café at Salon Den Blaa Fisk was born – a welcoming space for intercultural communication, networking, sharing experiences, and creating connections. A place for everyone. Since then, people from many different backgrounds have visited the café. Many tell us that the warm and friendly atmosphere has given them the perfect starting point for building a new social life on Lolland. Visitors from all over the world – as well as local residents – have found their way to us, enjoyed the cosy surroundings, tasted our homemade cakes and coffee, admired the artwork on the walls, and experienced the special "art" that emerges through meaningful conversations.

It is not unusual to hear three or four different languages being spoken around the room at the same time. However, there is always someone present who speaks both Danish and English.

Every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Den Blaa Fisk becomes a small oasis. It is a place for people who have recently moved to the area, those looking for work, people working remotely, parents at home while their children are at school, and anyone who has a free morning and would like some company.

At Salon Den Blaa Fisk, surrounded by paintings and sculptures in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, you can meet like-minded people who want to build a social network, learn something new, or practise different languages.

The café is primarily run by Sandra and Dorothea.

We also have a WhatsApp group: *International Café Den Blaa Fisk*

You are also welcome to contact Dorothea Lata or Sandra Mostad directly via Facebook.

## Filipino Association Lolland-Falster

The Filipino Association Lolland-Falster is a vibrant community established by Filipino residents living on Lolland and Falster.

The association organizes a variety of activities throughout the year, including language cafés, karaoke evenings, sports events and cultural celebrations. While the network has strong Filipino roots, many of their activities are open to everyone interested in meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.
